Motorola Razr HD – Super Thin Super Fast 4G Handset

The Motorola Razr HD is finally coming to the UK. I say finally because it has been in the US for several months now. The phone itself is Motorola’s flagship device that they currently have to the market, though it is expected that they will release a new lineup shortly after Google’s I/O conference this summer.

The device itself has a 4.7 inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 720p, the display is Super-AMOLED. The device boasts a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage with a MicroSD slot, and an 8-megapixel camera.

Motorola also claims the device gets 20 hours of battery life, which is less than the 24 hours the American version gets. This may be because Verizon, the largest American carrier, offers the HD in two versions, the HD and the Maxx HD. (Yes it really has two x’s in the name.)

The handset also comes with the latest major version of Android, 4.1 Jellybean. This means you’ll get access to Google Now, lock screen widgets, and the better notification system that was introduced along with that update.

Is the Motorola Razr HD Worth Buying?

The way the mobile industry moves, getting a device that was announced months ago is a risk if you are hoping to keep your phone relevant for the next few months. If that doesn’t bother you, this device will probably be just fine for you, especially if you can get it cheap.

If, on the other hand, you are more of the “shiny new object” sort, you might want to wait another month. This early spring is where a lot of new smartphones come out to market, which will mean your Motorola Razr HD will be very outdated in just a few weeks time. For instance, as recent as March 14th Samsung announced the next version of the Galaxy S line, the Galaxy S IV. Also recently in Barcelona, Mobile World Congress got underway in which a ton of new LG phones where announced.

As I mentioned before, it is also likely that Motorola, which is now owned by Google, will introduce new phones this summer after I/O. The question you have to answer is whether or not the best new gadget is something you need. If it is, then waiting will probably be best. If it is not, then the Motorola Razr HD will do you fine for the duration of your contract.

Motorola HD and You

For me the risk of buying something this old would be too great. Granted, there is no guarantee the new and best phones will come to the UK right after launch, but for sure the Galaxy S IV will, if past experience means anything.

The problem is that, like many other Android handsets, there isn’t much here that distinguishes the Motorola Razr HD from the rest of the herd. It has amazing battery life, but that seems to be its only unique quality, without that you have a device that has a good screen and interesting design, just like all the rest of the Android devices.
